BCNHS–JHS Records Encouraging Reading Progress Through ARAL Program

Mid-year assessment results highlight gains in reading proficiency as the school strengthens targeted literacy interventions and introduces Project LUCENT.

BCNHS–JHS SY 2026–2027 Grades 7–10

Bonifacio Camacho National High School – Junior High School (BCNHS–JHS) recorded encouraging improvements in learners' reading proficiency through its implementation of the Department of Education's Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program for School Year 2026–2027.

Results from the school's mid-year reading assessment indicate progress among learners requiring additional literacy support, reflecting the importance of sustained intervention, regular monitoring, and responsive teaching strategies.

TARGETED LEARNING SUPPORT

Strengthening Reading Intervention

Based on the school's mid-year assessment, the number of learners performing three levels below their expected grade level decreased from 18 to just three, representing an 83.33% reduction. Meanwhile, the number of grade-ready learners increased from 1,982 to 2,011.

Of the 99 learners identified for reading intervention, 90 learners, or 90.91%, regularly participated in scheduled ARAL sessions. These sessions incorporated targeted reading activities, differentiated learning materials, and continuous monitoring of learner progress.

The assessment results provide encouraging evidence of improvement while underscoring the need to sustain intervention for learners who continue to experience reading difficulties.

SCHOOL-BASED LITERACY INITIATIVE

Introducing Project LUCENT

Leading Understanding through Comprehensive and Engaging Literacy Transformation

To further strengthen literacy support, the BCNHS–JHS English Department, headed by Dr. Renato R. Salandanan, Head Teacher III and OIC–Assistant School Principal, conceptualized Project LUCENT, a school-based initiative focused on more responsive reading intervention.

01
Personalized Intervention

Reading support responsive to identified learning needs.

02
Progress Tracking

Monitoring learner development to inform instructional adjustments.

03
Collaborative Support

Strengthening coordination among teachers, learners, and families.

Project LUCENT is intended to complement the school's existing reading recovery efforts by providing a structured framework for continued literacy development.

MOVING FORWARD

Sustaining the Gains in Literacy

Despite the encouraging results, BCNHS–JHS recognizes the continuing need to address persistent reading difficulties, improve regular attendance in intervention sessions, and strengthen partnerships with parents and the wider school community.

Through sustained ARAL implementation and emerging school-based initiatives such as Project LUCENT, BCNHS–JHS remains committed to providing inclusive, meaningful, and responsive literacy support so that every learner has the opportunity to develop the reading skills needed for academic success.
